Know your rights when stopped by police

Just came across a blog which publish information on the Red pamphlet. I've copy some information from the site to share with all of you.

You have the right to ask for the Police Authority Card (Kad Kuasa Polis) from the officer when stopped. There are 4 different colors:

• Blue: Rank of Inspector and above
• Yellow: Below the rank of Inspector
• White: Reserve police
• Red: Suspended Police Officer. He has no authority to do anything to you. Walk away.

PayPal new withdrawal policy

I just browsing through Claire's site, delighted to know that PayPal has change the withdrawal policy. Yay, I can withdraw my money anytime from now on - if I've more than RM400.00 and above. I always stingily save all the money in PayPal, only withdraw when I really in need (too stingy to pay $5 for withdrawal charge!!!) LOL. Below is the charges PayPal newly change:

What is web directory?

A web directory or link directory is a directory on the World Wide Web. It specializes in linking to other web sites and categorizing those links.

A web directory is not a search engine and does not display lists of web pages based on keywords; instead, it lists web sites by category and subcategory. The categorization is usually based on the whole web site rather than one page or a set of keywords, and sites are often limited to inclusion in only a few categories. Web directories often allow site owners to directly submit their site for inclusion, and have editors review submissions for fitness.

Most of the directories are very general in scope and list websites across a wide range of categories, regions and languages. But there are also some niche directories which focus on restricted regions, single languages, or specialist sectors. One type of niche directory with a large number of sites in existence, is the shopping directory for example. Shopping directories specialize in the listing of retail e-commerce sites.

Examples of well known, general, web directories are Yahoo! Directory and the Open Directory Project (ODP). ODP is significant due to its extensive categorization and large number of listings and its free availability for use by other directories and search engines.

I received the below e-mail, not sure if it is true but please be alert!

This is pretty scary, as is (its modus operandi is similar) with the case of Ms Canny Ong.

A friend stopped at a pay-at-the-pump gas station to get gas. When she had filled her gas tank after paying at the pump and about to leave, the attendant inside came over the speaker. He told her that something happened with her card and that she needed to come inside to pay. The lady was confused because the transaction was completed and approved. She told him that and was getting ready to leave but the attendant once again urged her to come in to pay or else. She proceeded to go inside and started arguing with the attendant about his threat. He told her to calm down and to listen carefully:

He told her that while she was pumping gas, he saw a guy had slipped into the back seat of her car and hid on the other side. He had called the police. She immediately became scared and looked out there in time to see her car door open and the guy slip out.

The story went that it has to do with a test for the new gang initiation thing which requires one to bring back a woman's body part. One way they are doing this is crawling into girls/women's cars while the target is pumping gas or at the grocery store at night time. Then, they will cut off the victim's legs/ankles to disable them in order to kidnap them, and later kill and dismember them. The other method is slipping into unattended cars and kidnapping the women for the same purpose.

Ladies, be extra careful when going into your parked car at night.

Do not park at lonely or secluded places at any time of the day for the sake of free parking!

If at all possible, don't drive alone at night!

This is real! Kidnapping! Murder! Dismemberment! These are all happening here in Malaysia !!!

The message:

1. ALWAYS lock your car doors, even if you're gone for just a second.
2. Check underneath your car when approaching it for re-entry, and check in the back before getting in.
3. Always be aware of your surroundings and other individuals in your general vicinity, particularly at night!

What is Swine influenza?

Swine influenza (also swine flu) refers to influenza caused by any strain of the influenza virus endemic in pigs (swine). Strains endemic in swine are called swine influenza virus (SIV).

Swine flu is common in swine and rare in humans. People who work with swine, especially people with intense exposures, are at risk of catching swine influenza if the swine carry a strain able to infect humans. However, these strains rarely are able to pass from human to human. Rarely, SIV mutates into a form able to pass easily from human to human. The strain responsible for the 2009 swine flu outbreak is believed to have undergone such a mutation.

In humans, the symptoms of swine flu are similar to those of influenza and of influenza-like illness in general, namely chills, fever, sore throat, muscle pains, severe headache, coughing, weakness and general discomfort. The strain responsible for the 2009 swine flu outbreak in most cases causes only mild symptoms and the infected person recovers fully in a few days.

I just received this message from a friend. I don’t know the source of the message; I also don’t know the credibility of the content, but just beware.

Below is the content on the message:

“ Hello there. I just wanted 2 let you know that please stay away from the beaches all around in the month of July. There is a prediction that there will be another tsunami hitting on July 22nd. It is also when there will be sun eclipse. Predicted that it is going 2 be really bad and countries like Malaysia (Sabah & Sarawak), Singapore, Maldives, Australia, Mauritius, Si Lanka, India, Indonesia, Philippines are going 2 be badly hit. Please try and stay away from the beaches in July. Better 2 be safe than sorry. Please pass the word around. Please also pray for all beings. ”

Turning Garbage Into Detergents

Everyone is frugal during economic downturn. There are so many ways to save money, and it is now a trend for housewives to turn garbage into environmental friendly enzymes that could be used as fertilizer, detergent and disinfectant.

Let's try to DIY.

Use of environmental friendly enzymes:

• Multipurpose detergent: Can be used to clean bathrooms, kitchens, water troughs, pools, leather goods, carpets, cars, shoes, wash basins and refrigerators. They can also be used to bathe pets.
• Pesticide: Can be used to replace chemical pesticides.
• Air freshener: Can be used to reduce exhaust and toxic gases; friendly bacteria will distribute citrus smell.
• Disinfectant: Can be used to kill harmful micro-organisms.
• Fertilizer: Does not affect fruit quality but makes them more crunchy without chemical side effect.

Ingredients to make environmental friendly enzymes:

• 1 kg Brown sugar
• 3 kg fresh fruit residue/ fresh fruit skin
• 10 litre water
  

Notes:

• There must be room in the container for fermentation.
• The containers must be stored in cool place.
• Enzymes that are successfully fermented are yellow in colour. There will be a layer of friendly bacteria on the top which is white or brown in colour and it distributes pleasant citrus smell; if the enzymes turn black, it means the fermentation has failed. But you may add in some brown sugar to start the fermentation process again.
• Do not worry about the stink during the fermentation process, just cover the container well.
• The container could be a porcelain, pottery or plastic barrel.
• Do not use paper, plastic, metal cans and bottles as the ingredients.

Beware of hardware keylogger

Please be careful whenever you are using a computer at public place such as internet cafe.

Check the back of the computer and see if the below device is there. If so, do not use it!

New storing device fits at the end of the keyboard cable connecting to the PC specialized to save all typed keys in it?

It could be used in net cafes, exhibitions, hotels and airports therefore be careful especially the people who use the internet in these places to enter their bank accounts online or any other important sites.

After you enter the bank account and leave the computer, it will be easy to reopen your account as all you have typed has been saved in the BLACK device.

Therefore, you should check the computer for any suspicious piece behind it before using the net in public places for important sites.

What to do if stopped by a Malaysian police?

This is is very useful information. The next time you are stopped by persons who claimed they are plain clothes police, you are under no obligation to answer their questions or follow their orders.

'Policeman who is not wearing his uniform does not have the authority to stop anyone,'lawyer and human rights activist Sivarasa Rasiah said.

Sivarasa was commenting on the alleged gang-rape of an 18-year-old Uni student by four men claiming to be police officers on New Year's Eve. The girl said that her car was stopped in Taman Tun Dr Ismail in Kuala Lumpur and were asked by the men to open the car bonnet. She was then told that she had committed an offence and ordered to follow the men to a police station. The girl was driven in her car along the North-South expressway to the Tapah-Cameron Highlands road before she was raped in an oil palm estate.

This incident, and many others, have sparked confusion over the procedures which motorists must follow when flagged down by the police. The most common problem is that most people take instructions without determining if the other person is really a cop,' lawyer Annie Santiago said.

'However, if you are stopped by a uniformed policeman, then you are required to stop. But you need not get out of the car because you are not expected to do so,' Santiago said.

The other rule to follow is to provide your identity card only when you are asked to do so.

'Even then, you should get his ID first to confirm if he is a cop. There is no harm in calling the relevant police station to verify if he is supposed to be on duty that day,' Sivarasa said.

Both lawyers said that motorists should never follow an officer to the police station unless one is under arrest.

'If you are not sure, and your instincts tell you that something is wrong, then drive off to the nearest police station and lodge a report,' Sivarasa said.

In response to the alleged gang-rape of the 18-year-old, Women's Aid Organisation executive-secretary Ivy Josiah called on the police to launch an education program to teach the public about their rights to prevent them from being victimised by bogus police officers.

Procedures to follow in the event you are stopped by uniformed police Officers while driving:
1. Stop the car and wind down your window.
2. If the police officers ask for your documents, request to see their IDs first.
3. If you are satisfied about their identity, ask them if you are being summoned, and for what offense.
4. Produce your identity card and driver's license and wait to collect your summon ticket.

In the event that the police officers ask you to follow them to the police station:
1. Ask if you are under arrest and for what offense.
2. If you are not under arrest, you have the right to leave.

In the event you are flagged down by persons you believe could be plain clothes police:
1. Do not stop because plain clothes police officers do not have the authority to stop you.
2. Drive to the nearest police station and lodge a report.
(The same procedure applies to pedestrians)

In the event the police come to your house:
1. Do not let them in before checking their IDs.
2. If you are not satisfied, phone the nearest police station and confirm if they had been sent to your house.
3. You are under no obligation to allow them into the house if they don't have a search warrant
4. Do not go with them if you are not under arrest.

In the event persons who claimed to be plain clothes police come to your house:
1. Do not let him in because they do not have the authority to do so.
2. Lodge a report at the nearest police station.
